Abstract

To examine the characteristics and changes of the temperature field during storms operating in the East Sea under the influence of cold air over time, the article used the ERA5 data to build vertical sections of the temperature field through storm’s center and the vertical variation of the temperature in 4 directions around the center of the storm in 04 typical storms including Typhoon Durian (2006), Typhoon Damrey (2007), Typhoon Kammuri (2019) and Typhoon Vamco (2020). The results show that the temperature field in the storm under the influence of cold air has an asymmetrical distribution around the center. According to the infiltration process of cold air, the characteristics of the temperature field distribution change greatly. Specifically, before the cold air entered to the storm, the temperature field distribution clearly showed the hot core structure at or near the center of the storm. The elevation of the central hot core during storms varies, ranging from 750hPa to 400hPa depending on the storm. However, after the Cold air entered, the hot core structure in the storm broke down. The lowest temperature in the storm is in the northern and western parts. Temperatures tend to increase from west to east and from north to south.
