The Symbiotic Relationship Between Human Consciousness and the Himalayan Landscape in the Works of Ruskin Bond

Abstract

In this research paper, the researchers have broadly discussed the symbiotic relationship between human consciousness and the Himalayan context in the literary works of Ruskin Bond from a broad eco-critical perspective. This research examines Bond's depiction of the physical environment, as not just a picturesque backdrop, but an active, living and sentient world, in conversation with theories of Deep Ecology, Ecofeminism and environmental activism. The paper, by deconstructing the basic text like The Room on the Roof, The Book of Nature, Our Trees Still Grow in Dehra, Rain in the Mountains, has proved that the progress and elevation of man is in close correlation with the preservation of the ecology. In the end, Bond's books are an ageless declaration of human greed's evil and of the need for a more comprehensive perspective: that humans are coinhabitants of the natural world's tapestry.
