Abstract

The Ecuadorian productive structure has been characterized by being little diversified, with a high concentration in the production of primary goods and low value-added incorporation. Therefore, the change in the productive matrix represents a challenge and an opportunity for the Ecuadorian economy, which will allow job creation and the country's development. The applied methodology was a systematic review with a qualitative, descriptive, and narrative approach, also using the PRISMA method, which enabled a systematic review of all the studies and progress made regarding the productive matrix. The results highlight that strategies have been developed to bring about a change in the productive matrix, one of which is a shift towards a knowledge-based economy that can create new job opportunities in sectors such as biotechnology, information technology, and renewable energy. It can also promote entrepreneurship and innovation in Ecuador, tapping into the potential of tourism as a job and income generator, especially for the youth.
